Sebaceous hyperplasia is a common, skin condition of sebaceous glands or enlargements of sebaceous glands in the skin. They occur principally in middle aged and older adults. Lesions can be single or multiple and present as slightly white, flesh or yellow colored,  small papules on the face, particularly the nose, cheeks and forehead. Sebaceous hyperplasia occasionally also occurs on the chest, areola, mouth, and vulva. They often have a central indentation. Sebaceous gland hyperplasia is a harmless condition that is only a cosmetic concern.

Sebaceous hyperplasia lesions begin to appear in middle age  and continue to appear into later life , giving the skin a pebbled appearance.

Rarely, some lesions have been reported to resolve on their own, but the vast majority tends to remain permanently. Sebaceous hyperplasia appears as small yellow bumps up to 3 mm in diameter. Close inspection reveals a central hair follicle.

Their growth is associated with exposure to different androgen hormones and sun. This explains why sebaceous hyperplasia is seen more commonly in men than in women, but it is still seen in all people.

Lesions of sebaceous hyperplasia are benign, with no known potential for malignant transformation. However, the lesions are sometimes confused with early basal cell carcinomas. With its characteristic mosaic appearance, the surface of sebaceous hyperplasia is generally less uniform than that of basal cell carcinomas
