English Spinach |
English Spinach is reputed with health-giving
properties. It also contains considerable amounts of iron, vitamins A, B and C.
Often called "Cameron
Highlands Spinach" (referring to where it is grown), this spinach is also known by
its Cantonese name, poh choy. Health benefits: May reduce risk of cancer, antioxidant protection, may protect against eye degeneration, lessens chance of spina bifida, helps avoid and relieve anaemia, and provides plenty of potassium. Cautions: People with, or who have had gout, or kidney or bladder stones, should avoid spinach due to its high content of oxalates. |
Uses: It can be cooked in any style, but benefits from only subtle seasoning to allow its own flavour to dominate. Storing
